Nonagon Inifinity
By King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
Overview of the ablum
Nonagin infinity is the 8th album released by King Gizzard. Released on April 29, 2016, this album was considered to be King Gizzard's breakthrough album and was their first album to be top 20 of the AIRA charts. The album features 9 songs, with each song flowing into the next creating an "infinte" looping album.
My thoughts
Yeah so I really love this album, it's just so fun to listen to. Out of all of King Gizzard's albums, this is probably one of (if not their) most popular album and for very good reason. Every song flowing into each other keeps the energy going throughout the entire album all without interruptions, allowing the album to seamlessly develop itself. Even then, the sound throughout the album is varied enough and not too similar for every song. This seen especially with how the first half and the second half of the album are different sounds and different vibes despite all flowing into each other. Even the differences between Robot Stop and Big Fig Wasp are evident despite the flow being kept between each song. Sorry if this is confusing or incoherent i am writing this all in one take :sob:
This was the first King Gizzard album I ever listened to, and funny enough I found it through the Ultrakill Ultrarevamp trailer (as I'm sure many other people have). Maybe this makes me a poser or something I don't know terminology, but since then I have listened to literally all of their other albums multiple times over. And yes I plan on writing reviews for all of their other albums as well (or atleast most of them) :D
Of course even with this being my favorte album from them and maybe even favorite album ever, it still has some evident faults. For one thing, the entire album is very lo-fi. While not necessarily a bad thing at all and even something that adds to its sound, it still is something that could deter first time listeners. I remeber listening to Nonagon for the first time, while driving actually, and wondering if my speakers were messed up or if my phone was being weird or something. Although learning that it was an intentional choice made me more interested in the album, i can definitely understand this detering some people. Along with this, the infinite ablum looping part and not having that much of a break between songs can definitely be a little exhausting to listen to at times. These are all relatively minor things however, and otherwise I think the album holds up pretty well !
Track listing + any notes I have per song
1. Robot stop - A great intro to the album! I think it does well setting the tone and speed for the rest of the album and recenters it after a loop.
2. Big Fig Wasp - Honestly probably my favorite song. The energy throughout the song is so much fun to listen to and its like the only song I know of that is about fig wasps. Wasp plug btw, look up fig wasps (or parasitoid wasps in general) if you want an interesting rabbit hole!
3. Gamma Knife - I like the drum fill around the end of the song!
4. People-vultures - The music video for this one is really fun, they made a 6 person vulture costume
5. Mr. Beat - only missed a beat I, ooonly missed a beat
6. Evil Death Roll - fun riff!!
7. Invisible Face - the jazz break in this is a really funny thing to have but also sounds really good
8. Wah Wah - Named after the best guitar pedal, I heart the wah pedal.
9. Road Train - The last song of the album, and also the fastest at ~260 bpm!!! In fact, the band has actually said that they don't play this song live very often due to how fast it is. The times they have played it live though they always do it well!
Final Notes...
Good album, I like it, uhhhhhhh also its free on their bandcamp along with literally all of their other albums since they're not on spotify anymore. go download it now !!!!
